i left my heart
for three whole days once.
i couldn’t have just lived
without a heart
so i made up a new one.

i couldn’t decide between
“gold” & “steel”
so i went with “glass”
i’m not as strong as a kangaroo
but i can magnify the good
in the winter chill.

peanut butter sauce
drips from my chin.
i’m allergic,
but i eat it anyway.

i wandered around parramatta
& fed some stray birds
they followed me
back to my place
but i managed to lose them.

i got in on a game
of australian rugby in the park.
i went left and ran
out thirty yards or so.
i caught the pass easily,
but a 300-lb. monster
landed on my chest.

that’s when:
i got my heart back
& hopped my way
to the outback
